01What does the Image Compressor do?
It re-encodes JPEG and WebP files using your chosen quality setting. For PNG input, it reduces color precision in controlled steps before lossless encoding so the slider has a real effect without discarding transparency. Compression keeps the original width and height; resizing changes those pixel dimensions. You see each file size beside the result, and if the original is already smaller, the tool keeps it instead of claiming a false saving.
02How browser-side compression works
Your browser decodes each image into pixels, draws it to an off-screen canvas, then encodes a new file at your selected quality. A Web Worker handles supported browsers so large images are less likely to interrupt the interface.
