Resize, rather than compress

Resizing changes the number of pixels in an image—its width and height. Compression changes how those pixels are encoded to reduce file size. A smaller width and height often reduces file size too, but the two operations solve different problems.

Exact pixels or percentage

Exact pixels is selected by default and starts at the original dimensions. Enter a width and height when a form or layout has a precise requirement, or use percentage mode to scale every image relative to its own size. Common square, landscape, and portrait sizes can all be entered directly.

Aspect ratio and upscaling

Aspect-ratio locking keeps width and height proportional so photos do not stretch. Upscaling creates more pixels for a larger output, but cannot restore detail that was never captured; the tool warns when a setting enlarges an input.

Formats, quality, and batches

JPEG, PNG, and WebP inputs keep their original format. JPEG and WebP use the browser’s maximum output quality, while PNG remains lossless. Add up to twenty images, apply one setting, compare resulting dimensions and sizes, then download individually or together.

Are my images uploaded?

No. Decoding, resizing, encoding, previewing, and downloading happen in this browser tab.

What do image dimensions mean?

Dimensions are the pixel width and height, such as 1200 × 800 px. More pixels can display more detail but may also produce a larger file.

Does locking aspect ratio prevent distortion?

Yes. When locked, the dimension you edit drives the other dimension using each image’s original proportions.

Why can a resized file be larger?

Larger pixel dimensions and image content can increase the encoded size. The resizer uses maximum output quality and reports the actual result.
